Creating a better Mzansi through sport and development
Is one thing to try to impact the community or trying to stop violence while back somewhere at the office trying to see the root cause and find a way to help to stop the fight or using some pyscho-socio strategies or academic correlations. Is another thing when one see these things when staying in the community, exposed to it. It affects me. And secondly what is the message sent accross to the children who are exposed to it. In my one 6 days visit in Somerset East I was exposed to one of the life threatening violence to some of the youth in SA. While some of us are worried about R2000 lost buying or doing some good work out there, others almost lost lost their lives only because of R20. R20 caused one of the Attackers FC player to be stabbed nine times, two going to prison for 15 years imprisonment for attempted murder. This is what I saw on the street after the training session in SE. These youth what they need most is honour and respect and if anyone doesnt potray that to them they are vulnerable and easily snap. Anyone who kis coming with disrespect or judging make them easily be protective to themselves and if they feel vulnerable and there is no proper communication they easily use anything or violence or bottles or knives to send a message of being respected. They are also very angry with the circumstances and there is high rate of illiteracy. They got no hope. I am talking about stuff I see almost when I travel. This is the best eduucation one can acquire. Is to come from their own direction and live with them and come out safely or alive. This is the risk down there. I am sitting next to one of the victim to be criminal right now typing and he feels at home because I dont judge him or disrespect him but rather show love and that we are his brothers and communicate. any mistake can evoke something in him and be violent and even mug me.
The story of the violence which I witnessed goes like this even though I was bit late to intervene with some of the soccer officials. I know is risky and is police 's job but this is about ease the communication not in terms of violence. The risky or weaknesses is simply of going around with fear and be judgmental. It gives them confidence to mug you or even be violent. On Saturday night around 8 O'clock, Andile Tesana, goalkeeper of Eleven Attackers FC while on his way home with his brother, one of the local youth, demanded Ayanda to buy him a beer since he saw Ayanda having R20. Ayanda refused because he wanted to use it. Now when Ayanda 's younger brother tried to stop the guy to harass his brother, the thrid guy punched Ayanda 's brother and then stabbed him while Ayanda trying to protect his brother he managed to take the knife and the guy had another knife and while he tried to stab Ayanda, Ayanda had no choice but to protect himself by stabbing back. And ran with his brother to his house. About five minutes later two guys who are now in prison broke down Ayanda 's shack and stabbed him nine times almosdt to death. By the time I was on scene it was chaos everywhere. People crying and some thinking Ayanda is dead. We calm the situation down and called the police and the paramedics etc. This is one the stories of just living among the community in poor areas. These guys are potential future stars, simply because of hopeless and lack of opportunities and victimhood it ends like this. I will continue with the story but I have to go and work with comp skills and soccer training after. Thanks
