Serving Soup for the 67 Minutes of Community Service in the Helderberg

I guess this is what I enjoy doing, organizing activities that get the young people in my community active an involved. Seeing the youth becoming part of something good is always exciting for me, for every event I manage, seeing the smiles and pride on the work everyone has devoted to the success of any event is what inspires me to do another one.

This past Wednesday, it was no different, as the country took it upon them selves to selflessly devote 67 minutes of their time to community service...that I met with my team, to give our people an opportunity to be part of such great and honorable activity. We ran through some ideas for the 18th of July Mandela Day, and decided to organize a soup serving initiative, and to host a DJ. The planning was such an activity, that left me tired as I am taking this time to reflect on the ups and downs of the entire experience.

Young People from my community, as I advertised the event on facebook last week, showed great interest to take part in this event of ours, they all wanted to find out on how can they get involved. It was after everything was in place that people began pouring in, and all activities began...peeling, grating, slicing and all that had to be done in preparation for the soup serving that started at about 14:00 on Tuesday, and I really appreciated the support these young stars showed towards the success of the program, they were there, not just to do the 67 minutes already stipulated, but they were there to see the success of all that has to do with this event. There was so much work to be done, we have bought bags of potatoes, butternut, onions, carrots and the other veggies that were to be needed in creating these mouth watering pots.

The turnout was awesome, and I was glad that we took the initiative to provide these young people with something to do for their community, and they did a Job well done, to my surprise they wanted more, they were able to spend time with friends doing something that they enjoyed doing, and was to them the sharing of their resources with everyone. I am sure to provide them with other opportunities to do well for their fellow community people.

I am at a loss for words to express my appreciation for such an abundance of support and doing something good for our community. The DJ did great, the dude was a stars and I am grateful to everyone who took part in making this event a great success.
