Creating a better Mzansi through sport and development
Someone once said that in a world where everything can be bought or sold, people lose their values and morals chasing after money…….
We know everything in the world has a price, right? But does nothing else matter? Is it really money that makes the world go around? People risk their lives for money doing everything from illegal mining, robbing banks, stealing from relatives, fraud and killing people as long as there’s cash at the end. How many people sell their bodies, kidneys, babies, dreams or their friends for a quick buck? Most people have felt the sting of an empty wallet or the bruise of being robbed but we keep trying to make sure our cash flows. And it has long been known that we live in a world where money trumps everything: morals, values, love, family, honour, sex, trust, employment and even lives come at a price.
A research made which we found that young South Africans chose money over everything else…….and that includes sex and romance. Some choose who to fall in love with based on how much money the potential partner earns. It seems money is more important than the looks, chemistry and or love at first. Logic dictates that money-based relationships – be it friendship or romance – are unreliable. But still, it’s the money that talks, walks, buys presents, bling and luxury cars. I also asked some people to find out how true it was that people want money over anything else and out of all the people we asked nine out 10 said yes……. Are people this limitless for greed? Are there any lines people will not cross for payment? Is it really okay for us to put money above everything else? Would you kill a gogo for her pension? Would you risk HIV/AIDS selling your body for a few rands?
Money coach from Qwa Qwa who I prefer to remain call him Mr. anonymous, said it is difficult question to answer. What makes this difficult question is that the system we live under demands that we need money. It is might not be fair to blame people for choosing money over everything else. What is important is that we all use our common sense and morals in deciding how to get money. It is wrong to hurt others for profit. There are acceptable ways to make money – she said.
It’s not all bad, many good things can also be achieved with money but we can’t deny that money does strange things to our heads and changes our view about things and life in general. A research made found that hundreds of people proved that simply the idea of money could lead their morals astray.
This means the desire for more money made people forget about what’s right or wrong.
The bible verse about money being the root of all evil is correct….. Maybe we should ask ourselves:
DOES MONEY MATTER THE MOST IN OUR DECISION MAKING….? PLEASE I HOPE IT DOES NOT
