Creating a better Mzansi through sport and development
I have just landed in Jozi for the first time, excitement felt by every nerve in my system. I followed the track that was taken by my fellow travelers inside the OR Tambo International Airport, and I simple wanted to know where I can board the next Gautrain to Johannesburg Park Station. I made a quick call to Doc Mabila, just to be sure before an serious decision were made, Doctor confirmed all that I needed to know, and I went straight to a security guard from a distance away, and asked about getting a Gautrain travelling card, and the rest is just following the instructions from everyone who tried to give advice to getting to my destination safe and sound. The good part was, when I gone into the corridor and the Gautrain was already on standby, I quickly asked the security guards, if the train was going to Park Station, and they simply pointed me to the door.
So I got inside the Gautrain, In Cape Town, we have something similar, not entirely though, and that one is called Premium Express and it travels between Strand and Cape Town. It has been enough for me to see Premium Express passing by, and I see him weekdays, but I have never got inside. This time around, I was thousand kilometers away from home and I have just boarded the Gautrain for the first time in history. That was cool, I tell you, and when getting the thrill of the good things in life for the first time, it is always appealing to just hold your peace, and act as if you are used to the experience. Acting cool makes a whole lot of a difference, you avoid a lot of attention from your fellow commuters, and that worked just fine for me, ensuring that I don’t get lost in the process. Anyway, I knew the station I was going for was the last station on our route, and if I didn’t see a sign written Park Station, at any time that I will be seeing all of my fellow commuters leaving the Gautrain at once, I will know I have arrived.
I got to the Park Station and walked out of the Gautrain and I realized that it has been travelling underground the moment I was to go up the stairs. And I was like, I remember the reports and clips on the construction of the railway line, and I realized that it was hard work, and a great work, if you ask me for my opinion. I gone up the stairs and so I was at Park Station, seeing all kinds of transportation saturated in one place. My first instinct was call Doc Mabila, to let him know that I have arrived according to the instruction that were given to me for the journey. It was Doc who told me that he was going to send someone to fetch me and in no time I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize, and thought it should be the person to pick me up, Mr Skenti Simon Blangwe was the gentleman sent to pick me up, and my first question after he introduced himself on the phone was “what are you wearing?” and he said He was wearing a Nike jacket with a grey color. The moment, he was close by I recognized him and I quickly said my name and we were introduced, and he told me we were to walk to where we were supposed to be at, Mr Simon was great walking with as he shared a lot of information around Johannesburg infrastructure and the movements in the area…
