Requirements for application of the Thuthuka bursary
The learner must be African or Coloured
The learner must be a South African Citizen
The learner must obtain at least 60% on Mathematics (5 or above on the NSC Scale of Achievement) NOT MATHS LITERACY
The learner must be in Grade 12 intending on studying B comm. Accounting
The learner must be financially needy and will be assessed using the NSFAS MEANS TEST to confirm financial need
The Process of Awarding a Bursary
The application must have met the above criteria
The learner must have applied or be in the process of applying to one of the following tertiary institutions:
University of Johannesburg
University of Cape Town (Bachelor of Commerce code CB011)
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
Stellenbosch University
University of Pretoria
University of Orange Free State
University of Witwatersrand (WITS)
Once the learner has met the above criteria they will be called in for testing
Depending on the test results then the learner may be called in for an interview.
Once the learner has met all the above requirements and gone through the relevant test and interview only then will the bursary be provisionally awarded to the learner pending the final Grade 12 results.

The Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme
The Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme awards successful applicants bursaries for full-time study at accredited tertiary institutions. The scheme covers tuition and residence fees, the cost of prescribed text books, and also provides a personal allowance.
Applications close 31 May 2014 .
2.Harmony Gold acknowledges that their employees, present and potential, have aspirations but perhaps not the means to be formerly educated in their fields of interest. To this end, it has created the Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme.
The scheme is designed to contribute to the development of historically disadvantaged South Africans.
Preference is given to the following fields, which are functional to the mining industry :
Finance
Geology
Human resources
Mechanical and electrical engineering
Metallurgy
Mining engineering.
Applications for Harmony Bursary Scheme open from 1 January to 31 May every year , to be used the following year. If application is successful, you will enter into contractual obligation with Harmony. All details of agreement will be explained in full.
Please note :
All applications to be received by or on 31 May 2014.
New bursaries to be allocated will be for the calendar year 2015.
Students applying for bursaries; with less than a B Symbol in Mathematics and Physical Science will not be considered. Students applying for bursaries in Finances with less than a C Symbol in Mathematics and a B Symbol in Accounting will not be considered.
Due cognisance is given to future human resource requirements when bursaries are awarded.

Important : Note that South African universities now require a prospective student to first apply for admission before he/she can register . In order to study in 2015 you must have applied to register with your university of choice by 31 March 2014 .
