Schalk and I went to train to one of the informal settlements in Benoni area on the 28/June /11. We arrived there around 16h30 but you could barely see someone in a distance of over 60m simply because of the coal smoke coming from the shacks. Things got worse when we started training with our new family because one could inhale the smoke deeply and even my friend started coughing. The lovely people in this settlement have no electricity hence they choose to go for this alternative to keep themselves warm and cooking as their main easy and free source of energy. I mean there are kids, youth who are born into these conditions in SA. And I still see people fighting over political egos, positions and pride or certain people complaining about our country or small things  while they are people living like this everyday of their lives in SA, our neighbours. I was deeply touched when my friend: "Doc, just imagine living under these conditions as a child, you will hardly reach 40, because your lungs will be messed up by then".  I always think millions times before I complain about something in my life.

now imagine the black you see in the photo going into your lungs every day, with every breath at football training... we are not all born equal, and those born in privilege (health, security, food, education, holidays, etc) might think deeply about the responsibility that comes with wealth. Im not even talking about apartheid yet, just the contrasting circumstances of kids today in 2011... It seems the rainbow nation for some is a rainbow of black grey and dirty blue, with a bit of orange as the sun sets behind the thick ever present cloud of pollution.
