This day, 13 January 2015, will remain tattooed in the minds of many in the Youthzones family, as we had a great privilege to meet Her Highness, the Ambassador of Netherlands Ms Marisa Gerards and the Netherlands Cricket Team who are touring South Africa. What makes it so special is the fact that in a great spirit of humility, she found time in her extremely tight schedule to accompany her country's Cricket Team, who also had to break their camp to come and spend the day in the scorching sun in the dusty fields of Mamelodi, playing football with the kids and youths. This really meant a lot to youths from this modest community and it will go a long way in helping them restore hope and aim higher in life. The life-skills session, football game, cricket lessons, exchanging of gifts and souvenirs, as well as sharing of ideas was so valuable as well as exciting. However, the event was marred and had to be cut short due to the the horrific injury to Katlego, from the Embassy, who suffered a very bad fracture on his leg whilst attempting to bowl during a mini cricket session. We wish him a speedy recovery and our prayers are with him as he is in pain in hospital.
Later in the evening, we had another privilege to have dinner with the Ambassador at her official residence, where we again hooked up with the cricket team and rubbed shoulders with several business leaders and members of the diplomatic core. The Dutch food served was awesome!! We made new friends and potential business partners. It was an eye-opening event and we will forever be thankful to Her Highness, Youthzones and everyone who made this day possible.
Walala Wasala!!!
