Big Girls Soccer Team (Freedom Park, Soweto)
A team sport strengthens a marginalized community and puts the meaning back in life of female seniors.
The Big Girls Soccer Team is based in Freedom Park, Soweto, under a non-profit organization Sehlareng Health Club which was formed in 2018 by few ladies in Devland Extension 27.
The organization was started because they realized that they were faced with a tough transition caused by declining age, loss of loved ones, anxiety, physical health issues and a host of other concerns.
These changes are natural, yet they were seeking a formular or a positive ingredient to lead a healthy active life.
The organization creates a safe, and supportive environment including making new connections, and sharing ideas with each other, by staying connected and having numerous programmes.
They meet regularly in the morning and exercise together, play soccer, make some beads and knitted shoes to name a few.
They are also very active around the community by having Fun-walks etc., getting together and have a cook day,
It is not what age you are, but how you age that is more significant to wellbeing. Senior citizens today they are healthy and active thanks to modern awareness about weight and fitness.
