Creating a better Mzansi through sport and development
Every now and then we all make mistakes. Some more often then others. This past week I overlooked a shelf of computers and wrote them off as missing. I told my superior about it and got on with my day. His worry was intense and I could notice it over the phone. I got about 5 calls in an hour just asking about them. They were found the next day and I felt relieved. I wrote off the incident as a joke...free now, since they were found where they were said to be.
Only later that evening…

The league is under way and running. What bliss. Through all the admin troubles faced, the reluctance of the local municipality to help with the soccer grounds 16 teams week in and week out appear at the 3 venues to rigorously compete. More than 170 players have represented their teams amassing more than 230 goals refereed by reliable referees.
Being there, I was amazed by the hype of the league, witnessing no less than 5 debates about the strength/ weakness of the teams, which team…

What a weekend we just had. Met Youthzoners from Katlehong, Soweto, Evaton, Orange Farm and caught up with the peeps from Mabopane. Doc welcomed us all and gave us a brief about the YZ project, the intentions and underlying principles of it. He spoke about the basics of photo shooting with Ayanda showing the differences between a good and bad photo.
We left for Tarlton a new site close to home to play soccer, netball and hang out with the folks there. The soccer went well with the YZ…

This past weekend in Cosmo City something special happened. Teams from Mabopane, Katlehong and Soweto arrived in full rigour at Sgodiphola Secondary School (Blue Roof) to represent their Youthzones and acclaim bragging rights of being the champions. The day started off well with youth teams namely under 13 and 15 teams from Cosmo City warming the atmosphere before the intense dual would start.
Once the curtain was raised, no bars were held and friends became opponents for the duration…
ContinueGrowing up I was influenced subliminally to look upto Soccer Stars, Media Icons, Tycoons, Head Honcho's and basically all those living the good life with money that grows on trees. Not so much so, anymore! Now Im inspired by a different class of people. Those of a class that believe in a cause bigger then themselves, that do it with passion for the love of it.
To abo gogo that pray endlessly for the progress of Africa and Africans. Ama teacher that wake up to guide youth in…
ContinueWhen I found out about the Youthzones workshop that I would be part of, I really didn't know what to expect: was it going to be a formal gathering were we all get together and speak of how great Youthzones is, would we be introduced to well booked people who know everything, people who exaggerated real life experiences and made legend of reality, dreamers, or at the furthest extent party animals who did not care much about the actual workshop...
These questions loomed in my head as I…

As the youth of Cosmo City we are proud of our community...we work hard all day trying to ensure that all is well not only for us but for the older generations and those before us. We got a chance to express our work on the youthzones website and consequently take part in the life skills competition. We completed the manual late last year but could not submit it early as challenges of laptops breaking down, photos disappearing and so on...we had almost given up hope...
As time went…

A new middle school made from containers was organized in the second half of 2011, close to a barren field with long veld grass, big rocks, snakes, rats making up the scenery of what would seem a perfectly hopeless institution of leaning. It has students comprising of youth from honeydew stretching across Cosmo City and Nooitgedacht all the way to Diepsloot, Lion Park and Fourways.
The feeling inside the school was the opposite as we were let in to fulfill our appointments with the…

On the 23rd of April a 5 a side tournament was hosted in Cosmo City Ext 6, by the island, where Islanders FC refine their skills and draw community members together to support “super diski”.
The aim of the tournament was firstly, to unify all people of Cosmo (Taxi drivers, Soccer teams, shop owners and Taverns by indulging in South Africa’s favourite pass time: playing/watching soccer. And secondly to fundraise for soccer boots, shin pads and other soccer…

If you are somewhat intrigued by the name Dangerous Darkies(DD) and are wondering what sort of Pan African organisation this is, you can rest assured that we do not have any implicit polotical agenda. DD is a unique sports and recreation club that was established by proactive students in the community of Cosmo City, north west of Johannesburg.
Events and programmes that were fascilitated by staff members of Oasis South Africa in the month of June…
