    BLOG COMPETITION STARTS!!!

This is the exciting launch (not lunch) of a NEW competition that will take place right here on www.youthzones.co.za

The objective is to get young people to share their thoughts and feelings through blogs. You can also write a poem, song or story, but the main idea is to express yourself in ANY way. Even adding a picture.

The competition will not focus on the normal Youthzones topics of sport, IT, life-skills and enterprise, but it will have to be about a specific topic. You can choose which topic you want to write on. To enter, the #topic has to be in the title of your blog and, importantly you have to add it as a 'tag', just enter the topic in the block called Tags:

Prizes will be given EVERY week and includes over R100 000 of prizes, ranging from footballs and phones to airtime.

Winners will be notified through this website.

So, here are our topics until February: (in no particular order)

Hustle for Cash, entrepreneurship in the township #hustle

HIV Aids as part of our daily lives #hiv

Gay and Lesbian Views in My Community #lgbt

    Leadership Success Stories #lead

Gender Issues: women face challenges and solutions  #gender

    Crime and corruption #crime

This competition is sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Views in blogs or comments do not represent their views and editorial administration is conducted by Youthzones in conjunction with AmaVerkykers.

    IMPORTANT:

Although we encourage healthy comments and debate, any personal insults or fighting will be removed and members blocked. This has to be a safe space where we discuss with sensitivity, maturity and respect.

A youth zone is not a building or even a program, it is a network of relationship in a specific geographic area. Learning takes place under trees, in shacks, next to schools and libraries, what si important as the foundation for development is friendships, not bildings.

  • Denice Bongani Maphanga

Hello zoners with all my regards to every #LEADER could we please emphasize that #YOUTHZONE is not a building but a network of relationship in a specific geographic area.

    What's this about?

The Youth Zone Legacy Network has been established in partnership with the 2010 World Cup LOC to ensure a sustainable impact of the 2010 World Cup in the lives of South African youths.
The aim is to build friendships and share ideas that could help us better our own lives.
We recognise that a safe and equitable society is one where young people feel valued and where they have hope because of real opportunities and choices available to them.
The youth zones are very different and instead of fearing the differences, we want to learn from the diversity. At each youth zone we focus on: FOOTBALL,LIFE-SKILLS & COMPUTER LITERACY.
We want to connect young people, in real life and on the net The Foundation for a Safe South Africa, the Embassy of the Netherlands and Convergence Partners are all examples of people and corporates willing to join hands with us and explore a better life.
Use our website to get info and build meaningful connections! You can also download a brochure here

guys please take advantage of this program. An idea sharing environment will result in an informed society. have this vision; young teenagers who are among adult group where ideas are being shared and debated. this to me it means that these teenagers will be able to grab 1 or 2 ideas which in return he/she (teenager) will be able to use in a school activity.

There are different groups of teenagers visiting our local library looking for literature on their community social problems.this kind of information can arguably be said that the only people with accurate and reliable information can be acquired from community members themselves and this program aim to close that gap.

Many school learners are not being given an opportunity to attend any educative programs after school. As a way of trying to align a good behavior in teenagers and youth lets invest our free time to participate in such programs.

    HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED
    HOW TO STAY MOTIVAYED

Motivation is a very powerful and studies have show that motivation is more important than intelligence and ability in determining success, No one, however, can motivate you but yourself.

Limit distraction by creating a space that allow you to concentrate while you work. It is easy to lose motivation if you are tempted to do other things. Focus on achievment. Can you think back to when you achieved something? How did it feel? How will you feel if you can achieve again?

Find something of interest in your studies. If you start to enjoy what you are learning about, you will do better at it. Spend at least an hour a day empowering yourself. This can be achieved by reading good books, listen to inspiring messages and finding inspirational quotes.

It is important to push yourself to succeed. It will make rewards much better. Don't put of till tomorrow what you can do today! The longer you avoid doing something, the harder it will be to get it done. Do the hardest and most boring things first and get them out of the way.

A bit of competition can be a great motivator. Start a study contest with your friends. Dream about your future. What do you need to get there? If you really want something badly enough, you will have to work hard and get there.
