In 2010, our country was to host the FIFA World Cup, and our community was to be without a Fan Park to watch the matches and the festivities.

Organising the a Fan Park for our community was our first project for the Community, with the help of the City and local partners, we were able to organise the Community Hall, a projector, a television set, a sound system, and a massive board that was previously used to advertise properties for sale.

On the 11^th of June 2010, our community opened their very own Fan Park to take part in the festivities of the World Cup.

It was almost a year later of hard work, building working relations with other community stakeholders that we were able to launch out our very first annual program, namely; Sport-Fest, Soccer and Netball Tourney.

This program seeks to bring a positive energy into the community. It is a space where families and friends of those participating in sport come together to appreciate and support the sporting people in making the joyful stories, a space that provides great entertainment to the public and appreciates the great talent we have in our back yards.

Through the program, over the Easter weekend, we host local and visiting soccer and netball teams to take part in this four day program every year.

After we hosted this program successfully also this year, we thought it is about time that we launch all the programs we had lined up, so as of today in addition to the Sport Fest, Soccer and Netball Tourney that we host annually, we have weekly programs, here they are: Helderberg Netball League, RCL Leadership Dialogue, Inspired Reading Society and Living An Inspired Life.

The introduction of the Helderberg Netball League was our attempt to partner with the local netball teams in creating a supportive environment for organising netball as a thriving sport and facilitating positive change in the lives of young people.

We have youth supporting programs that we have introduced and the play a vital role in facilitating the above mentioned programs. We have a program that is named; RCL Leadership Dialogue (RCL is for Representative Council for Learners), which is the student leadership from the local high schools. Through this program, we seek to engage and consider student activity both at school and within society, and to deliberate in finding empowering programs for effective youth participation and development.

In our attempt to cultivate and promote a culture of reading and learning, we introduced Inspired Reading Society together with the local library and through the program we engage in discussions together with young people about current issues in the circular world, by using newspapers articles, books, and extracts from the internet and other sources.

And in our list of programs we have Living An Inspired Life for selected young people, this is to engage young people in relevant subjects that affect their lives in all aspects, to help them grow in wisdom, to make informed decisions and to create for themselves healthy and constructive lifestyles with sound principles, values and aspirations.

Also these programs have gained momentum in a short space of time, and we are very impressed, by the commitment and active participation we get from the youth in the community.

And we are forever grateful to our partners for their support and commitment in making a difference in the youth’s life.
